What is the difference between the monthly purchase limit and “available to spend”?
It is common to have questions about the difference between a card’s monthly purchase limit and the amount shown as available to spend. Below we explain how they differ and how they work together.
Monthly purchase limit
The monthly purchase limit applies to an individual card.
It determines the maximum amount that can be spent on that specific card during a calendar month — regardless of how much money is available in the company account.
Example:
If a card has a monthly purchase limit of SEK 10,000, the cardholder can spend up to SEK 10,000 during that month. Even if more funds are available in the account, the card cannot exceed this limit.
An administrator can adjust the monthly purchase limit if needed.
Available to spend
The amount shown as available to spend reflects the available balance on the company account.
This balance:
Is shared across all cards connected to the account
Decreases as purchases are made
Can be increased by applying for increased existing credit
Example:
If the available amount on the account is SEK 5,971.05, this is the total amount that can be spent across all company cards combined.
Key difference
The monthly purchase limit controls how much can be spent on a specific card per month.
The available amount shows how much money is available in total across all company cards.
These amounts do not need to match. A card may have a higher purchase limit than the available balance, but spending will always be restricted by whichever limit is reached first.
